The game is set in the Yucatan Peninsula and combines area control, capturing prisoners, and their subsequent ritual sacrifice to the gods in order for players to gain fame and favor. The game takes place over four periods of the sacred calendar, during which players compete for power, summon mythological creatures and heroes, and gradually increase the difficulty of their sacrifices.
