Product detailed description

Azul: Kids transforms the well-known family game into an accessible adventure for children. Colorful tiles, simple rules, and two difficulty levels create a game that grows alongside young players.

Azul: Kids is a board game designed for children ages 5 and up, played by 2–4 players, with each game lasting about 20 minutes. The game is based on the award-winning Azul series, but this time it’s adapted for younger players so they can enjoy creating mosaics without complicated rules or unnecessary waiting. Thanks to its simple gameplay, even children who are just starting out with board games will quickly pick it up. At the same time, it offers enough decision-making to keep parents entertained at the table as well. The colorful tiles and large illustrations help children develop their attention span, logical thinking, and fine motor skills. Another advantage is the two game modes, which ensure the game doesn’t lose its charm even after many rounds.

In Azul: Kids, you’ll become mosaic creators and gradually fill your board with colorful tiles of various shapes. On each turn, you select tiles from the bowls in the center of the table and try to place them as best as possible on your mosaic. The tiles come in the shapes of circles, squares, hexagons, or rhombuses, and each board requires them to be arranged correctly. Players must therefore think about which tiles to take first and which to leave for their opponents. The game is fast-paced, easy to follow, and children will quickly grasp the basic principles.

A major advantage of the game is its two different difficulty levels. Apprentice mode is ideal for a first introduction to board games. Here, players simply fill in their mosaic and try to complete the picture as quickly as possible. Once children gain more confidence, they can move on to Master mode, which introduces scoring with stars and more strategic planning. Suddenly, it’s not enough just to fill in the tiles; they must also think about which pictures to complete first and how to earn the most points. Thanks to this, the game feels natural and doesn’t force children to learn an entirely new set of rules.

Azul: Kids also features a very pleasant atmosphere. Instead of abstract patterns, you create images of seahorses, fish, whales, or colorful ornaments, which motivate children to complete the entire mosaic. The mechanism for passing excess tiles between players also adds subtle interaction without making the game feel competitive. Each game thus offers a combination of simple decisions, the joy of completing pictures, and light strategic thinking. As a result, the game works well for family play and as a first step into the world of modern board games.

  • Azul: Kids adapts the familiar principle of mosaic-building into a format that even children with no experience with modern board games can understand.
  • Two difficulty levels ensure that the game won’t become too easy after a few rounds and will grow along with the child.
  • Short game sessions make it possible to play even during a typical afternoon without the children losing focus or patience.
  • The colorful tiles of various shapes help children recognize colors and shapes while also developing their fine motor skills.
  • Thanks to the simple rules, children can handle most of the game on their own, and parents don’t have to constantly monitor the game’s progress.
  • Each board features different pictures, so the game never feels monotonous, even after playing many rounds.
  • The piece-selection mechanism teaches children to plan ahead and consider what options they’ll leave for other players.
  • The game works very well both within the family circle and when played with grandparents or older siblings.
  • The high-quality craftsmanship and distinct pieces fit well in children’s hands and make them easy to handle during the game.
  • Azul: Kids can be the ideal first modern board game to prepare children for more complex family games in the future.

Azul: Kids is based on the award-winning Azul series, which has gained popularity thanks to its simple rules and clever mosaic-laying system. The goal of the children’s version was to adapt the original mosaic-laying concept into a simpler and more accessible form for younger players. The game was published by Space Cowboys and the children’s division Asmodee Kids.

The original concept for Azul was created by German game designer Michael Kiesling, who is also behind a number of other well-known strategy games. The children’s version features artwork by French illustrator Iris Wincker, who goes by the name Lemonjuiceday; her distinctive style lends the entire game a playful and friendly atmosphere suitable for younger players.
