Product detailed description
The drums beat, the builders set to work and the first armies gather before the walls. Clash of Clans: Epic Raid – Village Edition brings the famous mobile strategy game to the tabletop, where you’ll build, harvest, recruit troops and launch raids on your opponents.
Clash of Clans: Epický nájezd is designed for 2–4 players who want to combine building their own village with direct competition and dice-based battles. The recommended age is 12 years and over, and you should set aside around 60–90 minutes for a single game. The rules are based on a straightforward sequence of five phases, so even players who are mainly familiar with the mobile version will quickly get to grips with the gameplay. More experienced players, on the other hand, will appreciate planning the order of actions, developing the town hall, building the village and timing attacks. The high level of interaction means that at the table you won’t just be worrying about your own economy – opponents can set your buildings alight, damage your defences and cause other problems. Familiarity with the original video game isn’t essential, but Clash of Clans fans will instantly recognise barbarians, archers, giants, P.E.K.K.A., dragons and other familiar units.
You start off modestly: you have a small village, a few builders, basic units and a town hall, which you’ll gradually upgrade. Each round consists of five phases – resource collection, builder actions, village scoring, firefighting and return, and finally discounts and restocking the shop. During the resource collection phase, you gain gold, elixir and gems based on the resource buildings you’ve constructed. You use gold to pay for new buildings; you need elixir to recruit units and upgrade the town hall; whilst gems are a more versatile resource that can be used as either gold or elixir. Even at this stage, the game resembles its digital counterpart: development isn’t an end in itself, as a stronger economy paves the way for a more powerful army and a more resilient village.
At the heart of each round are the builders’ actions. You send your meeples to the central game board and choose between building or recruiting, claiming the first-player advantage, upgrading the town hall, constructing defensive structures and, above all, raiding. You place building cards in your own village, where they can increase production, provide bonus abilities or earn stars during scoring. At the same time, however, you must think about walls, cannons, arrow slits and mage towers. Well-placed defences can change the course of an attack and force your opponent to first break through the protective ring around your more valuable buildings.
And then the drums sound. During a raid, send units into your opponent’s village, and the attack is resolved in several waves using attack and defence dice. Each unit type has its own stats and abilities: archers can fire at defensive structures, giants attack adjacent defences, the dragon flies over walls, and P.E.K.K.A. can move on to the next target after a successful attack. Damaged buildings may catch fire, causing them to cease providing their usual benefits, and a successful attacker gains resources and stars. As soon as a player reaches at least 40 stars during scoring, the end of the game is triggered – the clan with the highest number of stars wins.
- You’ll experience a board game adaptation of Clash of Clans that retains the familiar rhythm of gathering, building, recruiting and raiding, but you’ll be facing off against your opponents head-to-head.
- Each round forces you to divide your attention between the economy, defence and attack, so it’s not enough simply to hoard resources or recklessly send your army into battle.
- You actually build your own village using cards representing buildings and defensive structures, so it matters not only what you build, but also where you place each component.
- Familiar units don’t behave in the same way: dragons fly over walls, giants crush defences and archers fire from a distance, so you can tailor your army to your attack plan.
- Raids are direct and chaotic, exactly as they should be – you select targets, roll the dice and see whether your opponent’s defences can withstand your next strike.
- Upgrading the town hall gradually unlocks further options and rewards, so your village and army grow significantly and change their abilities as the game progresses.
- Fires aren’t just a spectacular reminder of a successful raid; burning buildings stop scoring points or providing their benefits until you put them out in the next phase.
- The game rewards attacking, but doesn’t force you down a single path – you also earn stars by upgrading the Town Hall and meeting the requirements of the scoring buildings in your village.
- Fans of the mobile game will find barbarians, archers, P.E.K.K.A., dragons, town halls and gems here, though this time without waiting for timers and without a screen between players.
- Thanks to the combination of placing builders, developing your own production, spatially arranging your village and dice-based battles, every game offers plenty of decision-making and moments when you simply want to hear the drums of war.
The board game Clash of Clans: Epický nájezd was created in collaboration between Supercell, the company behind the original *Clash of Clans* mobile game, and the American publisher Maestro Media. The game’s designers are Canadian game designer Eric M. Lang and American game designer Ken Gruhl. Lang is known, amongst other things, for games such as Blood Rage, Rising Sun and Marvel United, whilst Gruhl has contributed to games such as Happy Salmon and Life in Reterra. The art direction was led by Nate Weisman, and the graphic design was handled by American graphic designer and illustrator Peter Wocken. It is their work that helps to translate the distinctive visual style of the mobile game into the game board, cards, player boards and individual components. The designers and other members of the creative team are also listed directly in the Czech rules.
