Product detailed description
Crazy characters, absurd abilities, and races that turn into utter chaos in a matter of seconds. Magičtí atleti (Magical Athlete) combines simple rules with unexpected combinations of effects, making every game different and ensuring there’s always something happening at the table.
Magičtí atleti is the perfect choice for families, kids, and groups of friends looking for a fast-paced and unpredictable board game full of laughter and unexpected twists. The game will be enjoyed by both casual players and those who love combining abilities and watching the crazy interactions between the characters. You can play with 2–6 players; the recommended age is 6 and up, and you should set aside about 30 minutes per game. Thanks to the simple mechanics of rolling a die and moving along the track, you’ll learn the rules in just a few minutes, yet the game offers a surprisingly wide variety of situations that you’ll want to try again and again. Another advantage is the high variability among the individual racers, so each group of players can discover completely different combinations of abilities.
In Magičtí atleti, strange racers with even stranger abilities face off against one another. Before the game begins, each player takes turns drafting a team of four athletes to use during four races. Each character functions completely differently—some trip up opponents, others teleport along the track, while still others can copy the abilities of others or move alongside rival racers. Even the team selection itself is a crucial part of the game, because you never know what combinations will meet on the track.
The basic principle is very simple. On your turn, you roll the die and move your piece the corresponding number of spaces. But that’s exactly when the real chaos begins. Special abilities are triggered when you pass an opponent, when you land on the same space, or whenever someone uses their own ability. A single turn can thus set off a chain reaction during which several racers move across the entire track—some get tripped up, while others unexpectedly take the lead.
The double-sided track also plays a major role. The Calm Trail offers a more straightforward race, while the Wild Wilderness adds special spaces that move racers forward, send them back, or trip them up outright. Thanks to this, the game feels constantly dynamic, and even the player in last place can turn the entire race around in an instant. Moreover, Magical Athletes encourages spontaneous reactions at the table, loud commentary, and the joy of absurd situations you certainly wouldn’t expect in a classic racing game.
- Each racer works completely differently, so you’ll constantly discover new combinations of abilities and unexpected interactions between characters.
- Even children can master the simple rules in no time, yet the game creates situations that will surprise even more experienced players.
- Team drafting adds a strategic layer and forces you to think about which racers to save for later races.
- Games are fast-paced and full of moments when the order on the track completely changes in a single turn.
- The distinctive art style and absurd characters give the game a unique character that players will easily remember.
- Thanks to the large number of racers, every game feels different, and the game never gets boring, even after many races.
- Magičtí atleti works great as a family game, but it’s just as entertaining for a group of adult players at a game night.
- The constant chain reaction of abilities creates comical situations that lead to loud reactions and shared memories.
- The double-sided track and various game variants allow you to adjust the pace and level of chaos based on the composition of the player group.
- The game requires no lengthy setup or complicated explanations, so you can easily pull it out for almost any occasion.
Magičtí atleti is based on the original Japanese game Magical Athlete (2003), created by Japanese game designer Takashi Ishida. The modern version was subsequently reworked by American game designer Richard Garfield, creator of games such as Magic: The Gathering and King of Tokyo. The game’s distinctive visual style was created by British illustrator Angela Kirkwood, whose drawings give the entire game an energetic and slightly absurd style.
The new edition was prepared by the publisher CMYK, which adapted the game for a contemporary audience while preserving its original chaotic atmosphere. The result is a racing game based on the simple principle of rolling dice, but which constantly creates new situations thanks to dozens of unique abilities. The Czech localization includes a complete translation of all racers, abilities, and game variants.
