Panda Panda is built on simple rules, fast-paced rounds and constant tension between players. Every card played can change the situation at the table in an instant, and victory is often decided by good timing and keeping a close eye on your opponents.

Panda Panda is a family card game for 2 to 4 players aged 6 and over; you should allow around 15 minutes per game. Thanks to its very simple rules, you can easily explain it to younger children, yet it also manages to entertain adult players who enjoy fast-paced games of quick thinking and strategy. It works brilliantly as a quick game between longer titles, but it’s just as suitable for a family afternoon or when travelling. Games are fast-paced and players hardly ever stop. The constant drawing, discarding and moving of cards creates a lively atmosphere where the situation changes almost with every turn. Thanks to the short playing time, you can easily play several games in a row.

Your aim is to form a specific combination of letters before the other players. Each round begins with a few cards in your hand, and as the game progresses, you gradually draw, discard or swap them. It sounds simple, but it’s precisely the limited number of cards and the need to have exactly the right combination that create some very interesting decision-making. It’s not enough simply to collect the right letters. You must also keep track of how many cards you’re holding, as every winning combination requires an exact number of cards in your hand.

Interaction between players also plays a major role here. As soon as someone discards a card with the letter A, all players must immediately pass one card to the player on their left. The situation can thus be turned on its head in an instant. A card you’ve been carefully holding onto for several turns may suddenly disappear, and your winning combination may fall apart right before your eyes. Players must therefore constantly monitor not only their own hand, but also their opponents’ behaviour and their possible intentions.

Panda Panda also plays very briskly and with virtually no downtime.

Turns are quick and you’ll grasp the rules within a few minutes, yet the game offers a surprisingly large number of thrilling moments. Every decision – whether to draw a card or discard one – can determine the outcome of an entire round. Furthermore, a game doesn’t end with a single victory. The player who manages to win two rounds wins the entire game, so the situation can easily turn around even after a poor start.

Panda Panda was originally published by AllPlay as a fast-paced family card game focusing on simple rules and strong player interaction. The game relies primarily on a brisk pace, minimal playing time and ease of play for both children and adults.

The game was designed by the American game designer John D. Clair, who is also behind titles such as Space Base and Ready Set Bet. The illustrations were created by the American illustrator Kwanchai Moriya, whose style is well known amongst board game players thanks to his bold colours and easily recognisable artwork.
