A map expansion for the board game Toy Battle.

La Croisette introduces a new terrain for the base game Toy Battle.

The map is inspired by the famous promenade in Cannes, France, so this time your armies will clash amongst the sea, luxury yachts and buildings reminiscent of the venues for major festival events. The rules of the game and the victory conditions remain unchanged – you still aim to capture your opponent’s headquarters or collect a set number of medals.

However, the new base layout alters the path to these objectives. Some spaces allow you to draw one unit from the reserve and place it in a stand. A stand can hold a maximum of eight units, so you cannot utilise this effect if you exceed the permitted number.

Another base allows you to point to one unit in your opponent’s stand without looking to see which one it is. Your opponent places it face down and may not use it on their next turn. At the end of the turn, the unit returns to the reserve, but whilst it is out of play, it still counts towards the eight-unit limit. A well-timed move can therefore disrupt a planned sequence and force your opponent to find an alternative solution.

Furthermore, two special bases accept only the joker or units with a strength of 4, 5, 6 or 7. The effects of units placed on these spaces are not activated. You will therefore need to consider whether to use a stronger toy to advance through a restricted base, or whether to deploy its ability elsewhere instead. La Croisette retains the fast pace of the base game, whilst adding new decisions regarding the choice of units and direction of attack.

Product detailed description

Souboj hraček - La Croisette (Toy Battle: La Croisette) takes the battle of the toys to Cannes’ most famous promenade. The new battlefield will test your timing, your ability to gauge your opponent’s intentions, and your unit management.

The sun glints off the sea, the red carpet awaits the winner, and La Croisette is overrun by armies of toys. This new battlefield will test your timing, your ability to anticipate your opponent’s intentions, and your unit management skills.

This game is an expansion only. To play it, you must own the base game Toy Battle.

Souboj hraček – La Croisette is a map expansion for 2 players aged 8 and over. You should allow around 15 minutes per game. It will be particularly appreciated by pairs who are already familiar with the base game and wish to enrich their tactical battles with new possibilities without having to study extensive additional rules.

Thanks to its short playing time, you can play La Croisette as a quick rematch or enjoy several battles in a single evening, trying out a different strategy each time. The accessible mechanics remain suitable for family gameplay, whilst the special bases also offer plenty of scope for more experienced commanders who enjoy carefully planning every move.

La Croisette introduces a new terrain for the base game, Toy Battle. The map is inspired by the famous promenade in Cannes, France, so this time your armies will clash amidst the sea, luxury yachts and buildings reminiscent of the venues for major festival events. Neither the rules of the game nor the victory conditions have changed – you still aim to capture your opponent’s command post or collect a set number of medals.

However, the new base layout changes the path to these objectives. Some spaces allow you to draw one unit from the reserve and place it in a stand. A stand can hold a maximum of eight units, so you cannot use this effect if you exceed the permitted number.

Another base allows you to point to one unit in your opponent’s stand without looking to see which one it is. Your opponent places it face down and may not use it on their next turn. At the end of the turn, the unit returns to the reserve, but whilst it is removed from play, it still counts towards the limit of eight units. A well-timed intervention can thus disrupt a planned sequence and force your opponent to find an alternative solution.

Furthermore, two special bases accept only the joker or units with a strength of 4, 5, 6 or 7. The effects of units placed on these spaces are not activated. You will therefore have to consider whether to use a more powerful unit to advance through the restricted base, or whether to deploy its ability elsewhere instead. La Croisette retains the fast pace of the base game, whilst adding new decisions regarding unit selection and the direction of attack.

  • You’ll expand the base game with additional terrain featuring its own base rules, creating new gameplay scenarios without altering the familiar turn sequence or the conditions for victory.
  • By using a base that temporarily takes an opponent’s unit out of play, you can disrupt their plans, slow their advance towards your headquarters and create space for a counter-attack.
  • The option to replenish a stand with a unit from your reserve offers you greater choice for future moves; however, you’ll also need to keep an eye on the eight-toy limit and decide when using this effect is truly advantageous.
  • The restrictions on special bases highlight the importance of individual units’ strength, so planning a route to your opponent’s headquarters requires more careful management of both your wildcard and your army’s strongest members.
  • As the abilities of placed units are not activated on selected spaces, you’ll more often find yourself choosing between advancing to a key position and immediately utilising an effect, which gives even a seemingly simple move several possible meanings.
  • The setting of the Cannes promenade brings a distinct atmosphere to the games whilst also paying homage to the success of the base game in a city associated with a major European board game festival.
  • The standalone map doesn’t take up much space and is easy to add to the base game, so you can take the expanded range of terrains with you on visits, holidays or even shorter gaming sessions.

La Croisette was created in 2026 as a new terrain inspired by Cannes and its coastal promenade. The original edition was produced by the Belgian publisher Repos Production.

Italian game designers Paolo Mori and Alessandro Zucchini are behind the design of both the base game and the expansion. The visual style of the game’s world was created by French illustrator Paul Mafayon, whose colourful characters and settings tie the various battlefields together into a single, easily recognisable world.

The base game was released in 2025 and was localised into Czech in the same year. In February 2026, it won the As d’Or – Jeu de l’Année, the French Game of the Year award, presented during the Festival International des Jeux in Cannes. La Croisette’s theme directly builds on this connection.
