A fun tower defense game for the whole family.

The Wombat tower is under attack by vile villains! Don’t waste a minute—grab whatever you can and work together to fend off the attackers!

The Vombatí věž (Wombat Tower) is a game that will put your dexterity to the test.

The centerpiece of the game is the throwing tower, through which you’ll roll a die to knock down approaching attackers. You’ll also have to interpret the results of each die roll. Most of the time, these won’t be good news—new enemies will appear, or the existing ones will move closer.

But every now and then, luck will throw you some useful gadgets to help you defend the tower.

Product detailed description

Vombatí věž turns castle defense into a short team battle where the die actually knocks attackers out of the way. Aim the tower, choose the right moment, and defend your three shields.

The Vombatí věž is a family cooperative game for 1–4 players that, thanks to its simple rules and a strong element of skill, will appeal primarily to families with children. You can play it with children ages 6 and up, and kids can easily join in the defense because the essence of each turn is to aim the tower and use the die to knock the attacker figures off the paths. You should set aside about 15 minutes per game, so the game is also well-suited for times when you don’t have time for longer sessions. You’re all on the same side and decide together which of the four paths poses the greatest danger. It’s not just about luck—judgment, precision, and choosing the right target are also important. For more experienced defenders, the rules offer a “heroic mode,” which adds an extra attacker to each path and ramps up the pressure right from the start.

The Wombat tower is under attack, and your task is to join forces to repel all enemies before they breach its defenses. A tall tower stands in the center of the game board, with separate paths leading to it from all four sides. Soldiers and more dangerous bosses gradually appear on these paths, trying to reach your walls. On your turn, you can rotate the tower to face a selected path and then roll a die into it. The die flies out through the bottom opening, and your goal is to physically knock over one or more figures. If you successfully knock an attacker down, you remove it from the game board. Simply moving it isn’t enough—a standing figure returns to its space.

However, rolling the die isn’t just about attacking enemies. After each attack, you must also evaluate the symbol that appeared on the die, and this is where the real pressure on the defender begins. Attacker cards can bring in new soldiers or a boss, whose battle cry also moves other opponents on the same path closer to the tower. A different result triggers a charge, during which all enemies on a jointly selected path move one space forward. Once an attacker can no longer be placed or moved, it damages one of the three shields and disappears from the board. Damaging the third shield means immediate defeat, so you must constantly monitor all four directions.

However, not every symbol on the die is harmful. A bonus effect allows you to draw a gadget card, which changes the way you send the die into battle for a single roll. The catapult uses a flick of the finger; with the mallet, you push the die using the card itself; and the bridge lets it fall from the top of the tower. Each method requires a slightly different estimate of force and direction, so the game naturally alternates between planning and moments when dexterity is key. You’ll only win once you’ve eliminated every single attacker from the paths. Since you’re playing as a team, you can consult with each other before every roll to determine where the greatest danger lies and which move will help you the most at that moment.

  • You don’t just use the die to determine a random result—it becomes a real projectile that you use to knock attackers off the game board from atop the tower.
  • You’re all fighting for a common goal, so you can plan your next move, point out the most vulnerable path, and celebrate successful rolls together.
  • Even younger children can understand the rules, yet you still have to keep track of the four paths, the status of the shields, and decide which threat to prioritize.
  • Each roll combines skill with the uncertainty of the die—you can hit an enemy precisely, but the resulting effect may also bring in additional reinforcements.
  • The catapult, mace, and bridge change how the die is rolled, so you don’t roll the same way throughout the game, and each bonus requires a different move.
  • The three-dimensional tower isn’t just decoration—it’s a central part of the mechanism that you rotate toward the selected path and use during every attack.
  • The short playtime allows you to play several games in a row, and after a defeat, you can immediately try a different tactic for dividing your attention among the paths.
  • The game also works for a single player, so you can practice defending the tower on your own and later share the decision-making with the whole family.
  • Hero Mode adds more attackers right from the setup phase, offering a simple way to increase the difficulty without introducing complex rules.
  • Victory depends on completely clearing all paths, so the tension doesn’t end with the first successful hit, and the last remaining enemy can decide the entire battle.

The original publisher of Wombat Tower is the French publishing house Blue Orange. The game was designed by two French game designers, Antonin Boccara and Romaric Galonnier. Together, they have created, for example, the cooperative game La Fabrique à Rêves and the Mon Puzzle Aventure series. The artwork for Wombat Tower was created by a French illustrator known as GYOM.
