Product detailed description
“It rings, it rings, the bell of betrayal, the bell of betrayal…”
An excerpt from František Halas’s poem Zpěv úzkosti, written in 1938.
Zrady zvon is a dynamic two-player game depicting the Munich Crisis of 1938. The players represent the ‘Defence’ and ‘Cession’ factions, who compete to assert their positions and decide whether Czechoslovakia will resolutely oppose the territorial concessions demanded by Nazi Germany, or, conversely, capitulate and hand over the Sudetenland to Hitler in order to avoid bloodshed.
Over the course of three rounds, both players will play their strategy cards to influence the Czechoslovak army, politicians, ordinary Czechoslovaks and the world powers exerting pressure on Czechoslovakia. Meanwhile, along the borders and in the Sudetenland, German military and paramilitary activity will intensify, likely leading to the mobilisation of the Czechoslovak army. In the final round, the player representing the Defence will attempt to prevent the player representing the Cession from allowing President Beneš to accept the historically significant Munich Agreement!
The game was designed by the Czech designer Petr Mojžíš. It is based on the Final Crisis system, previously used in the games Fort Sumter and Red Flag over Paris. The game can also be played solo using an automated opponent (AP).
