LEGO® brand history

In 1934, Danish carpenter and wooden toy maker Ole Kirk Kristiansen combined the two Danish first letters of the word LEG GODT, which means "to play well," to name this world-famous toy LEGO®. In 1958, he and his son filed a patent application for the bricks, breathing life into the toy of the century with the iconic name. This revolutionary children's creative toy continues to reap success around the world to this day.
