The book is written by Jörg Benne, a well-known author of game literature, whose science fiction gamebook Verax was published by Mytago to great acclaim. The atmospheric illustrations are by David Staege.
Game mechanics and gameplay
The gamebook focuses on the exploration of each room of the mansion according to a numerical plan. The player is free to choose where to go and in what order.
Gradually, more parts of the house are unlocked, creating an escape room-like atmosphere.
The mechanics of statuses and room number changes allow you to track progress and logically build on previous actions.
The book contains a number of clever puzzles and challenges.
David Staege's illustrations add another dimension to the game. Some clues are hidden in the details of drawings of furniture or objects.
