    The Shadow Over Innsmouth is a horror story by American writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The story was first published separately in 1936 and subsequently several times in short story collections.

    The story is part of the author's broader Cthulhu Mythos and tells of the nearly abandoned and isolated town of Innsmouth, Massachusetts, which is shrouded in dark and supernatural mysteries. The protagonist, whose name is not revealed in the story, gradually uncovers the mysterious secrets of the town's past and its terrifying present. The story culminates in the revelation of a shocking secret about the narrator's own origins. The Shadow Over Innsmouth is known for its atmospheric and oppressive mood, which is characteristic of Lovecraft's work.
