You’ll take on the role of students at a wizarding school, where players are divided into two rival houses. Each house has its own prefect who knows the secret of a mysterious grid. Prefects give their classmates a clue in the form of a word and a number indicating how many cards are associated with that word. The students then guess and explore Hogwarts word by word. If they guess the word correctly, they can continue guessing; however, if they encounter a rival house, a dead end, or another obstacle, their turn ends. And if they get caught by the grumpy caretaker Argus Filch, the game ends for everyone and the rival house wins. The winning house earns points that can be recorded and tracked as part of the House Cup across games.
Does this sound familiar? As far as mechanics go, all Codenames fans will surely see the similarity. However, Codenames: Return to Hogwarts adds new asymmetric abilities that give the game new strategic depth.
