In 1920, after the death of his disturbed mother, the brilliant psychologist Amadeus Arkham began to convert his family home into a hospital for the treatment of the mentally ill. More than half a century later, Arkham's asylum is a place of bleak corridors and oppressive shadows - a dark riddle of stone and wood best left unsolved. In its claustrophobic padded cells and unlit dungeons, Batman's mentally disturbed enemies dwell, dreaming of the day when they will rise up and overthrow the world of reason. And that day has finally arrived. It's April 1st, and the madmen have taken over the asylum.
