From Soviet shenanigans to radiation sickness, a radioactive cloud wandering over Europe and an abandoned no-man's-land. From Chernobyl, the Fall of the Atomgrad you will also understand the workings of an atomic reactor, although the technical facts are last in line. The comic follows the nuclear tragedy from the germs of its causes to the dozens of human stories it cruelly affected. It wasn't just the plant personnel or firefighters who rushed to the rescue in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, but also their families, the residents of the surrounding area, and the volunteers who had no choice but to obey orders and arrive to deal with the aftermath. The "peaceful atom", as the nuclear power plants were nicknamed, was to be the pride of the Soviet Union. Instead, a succession of bad decisions overnight exposed the absurdity of its management and the inhumanity of the system to whose collapse it ultimately contributed indirectly. But at the cost of thousands of lives lost and the irreversible consequences for a country that those who returned never stopped loving.
