The novel In the Mountains of Madness is a journey into the heart of Lovecraft's myth - into the deep caves and even deeper chasms of time on an inhospitable continent where the secret history of our planet is preserved. Since its first publication in the now iconic pulp-era magazine Astounding Stories, this story has influenced the development of horror and science fiction around the world. Japanese writer and cartoonist Go Tanabe has adapted it faithfully and with great respect for the source material into the manga form, the first half of which is found in this book, which is more reminiscent of Western comics in its artwork and overall style, and can therefore also serve well as a "gateway" for those who are new to Japanese comics.
