Welcome to the Encyclopedia! It is the year 1739 and you, ambitious naturalists and adventurers, have been hired by Count de Buffon - Darwin's predecessor - to help him create the first natural history encyclopedia. To this end, you will conduct research, organize ambitious expeditions, and publish studies on the most fascinating creatures in the world!
The Encyclopedia is a game based on placing dice (worker placement). At the beginning of each round, you will draw and roll dice and then place them on your player board. You can then use these dice in each round to take actions depending on their color and value. Your action could be preparing expeditions to the embassy, visiting the bank to obtain financial resources, or hiring a research team at the university. Once you are ready, you will choose animal cards to study and then organize expeditions to observe them in their natural habitat. Once your research is complete, you can publish your results and try to become the greatest contributor to Buffon's encyclopedia. You will earn victory points for each publication and at the end of the game, you will earn points based on the collections of animals and research gathered during the game. The naturalist with the highest number of points wins!
