The Czech Extraliga ice hockey league celebrated its 30th anniversary in the 2022/2023 season. During that time, we have seen hundreds of players. Some have fallen into oblivion, others have worn the national team jersey or made a name for themselves in the NHL. The exceptional ones have become club legends.

The Extraliga All-Stars card game allows you to build your own dream team and play matches against live opponents and "virtual" opponents. The game features all the teams from the 2022/2023 season and, as a bonus, the teams that have won the Extraliga title in its thirty-year history. Each team is represented by six hockey players from the entire history of the Extraliga, who were selected in cooperation with individual hockey clubs. The game also features the biggest personalities of Czechoslovak hockey in the form of legend cards without club affiliation. It's up to you to decide what your team will look like and whether you can lead it to the title.

The game is designed for 2-5 players aged 8 and up and takes about 30 minutes to play. It is divided into two main phases.

1. DRAFT

Can you think of a better game mechanic for a hockey game with team creation? In card games, the draft usually works by giving players a certain number of cards, choosing one, and passing the remaining cards to the next player. In our game, hockey player cards are drafted. There are 110 cards in total, and your goal is to draft hockey players into the correct positions (LK, C, PK, O, O, B) and, ideally, to acquire more players from specific clubs. After 2 rounds of drafting, during which you will acquire 12 hockey player cards, you will create your starting lineup for the first round of the second part of the game.

2. SEASON

The main part of the game, in which you and your team fight for victory. The season consists of several rounds, during which you and your team compete in matches against other players and "virtual" opponents. Before the matches, event cards are revealed that affect all players during the current round. The players themselves can change the course of the game with coaching cards, but they only have 3 for the entire season, so you need to consider their use carefully. Matches are evaluated by rolling dice, but of course there are several interesting mechanics and rule twists behind it. After each match, there will be forced and voluntary player substitutions, so don't think that you can just draft a strong starting lineup and win.

Hockey player cards:

The game includes 6 hockey player cards (center, left wing, right wing, 2 defensemen, goalie) from each of the 14 clubs that played in the 2022/2023 Extraliga season + 3 other teams that have won the title in the 30-year history of the Extraliga, plus 8 cards of legends from the pre-Extraliga era. The cards show the player's position, club affiliation, how many years they spent in the Extraliga with that club, and how many titles they won with it. Two players from each club also have a special ability that allows them to manipulate the dice during matches.
