Welcome to a time when Provence, France, smelled of fresh milk and maturing cheese wheels. Delicious specialties are born in stone granaries, while pastures full of goats and cows set the peaceful rhythm of rural life.

Fromage takes you to this world, where skill and patience translate into prestige and recognition among the best cheese makers of their time.

Fromage is designed for 1–4 players aged 14 and up who appreciate strategic planning and a strong connection between the theme and game mechanics. You should set aside approximately 30 to 45 minutes for one game. It works well with two players, where careful planning comes to the fore, but it really comes into its own with three or four players.

The game is suitable for those who like Eurogames with a clear structure but prefer a faster pace. Less experienced players will learn quickly, while experienced strategists will appreciate the opportunity to optimize the maturation of their cheeses.

The game puts you in the role of a French cheese maker who decides how to best use the available resources—fresh milk, fruit from local orchards, livestock, and buildings that facilitate production. You can make cheese quickly and sell it, or let it mature and gain more prestige and points, but you will lose time and other opportunities.

Mechanically, the game combines worker placement with a unique rotating game board that turns after each round and changes the available actions. This symbolizes the changing seasons and the need to adapt to changing conditions. You visit festivals, trade in regional towns, build bistros and granaries, and fulfill orders that earn you prestige points.

Each turn is divided into clear phases: acquiring raw materials, producing cheese, maturing it, and selling it. The rotating board affects which actions are available and forces players to think about the order of their steps. Workers remain blocked during the cheese aging process, creating an interesting time pressure. By fulfilling orders, you not only earn points, but also gain new opportunities to develop your cheese factory and streamline its operations.
