Enter the natural borderland between forest and meadow in the exciting expansion Mixed Forest: Borderland! Discover new species, work with shrubs, and take advantage of the opportunities offered by each clearing.
The Mixed Forest: Borderlands expansion is designed for anyone who enjoyed the original game and would like to enrich their forest with new species and tactical options. New cards with unique effects expand the existing game deck and offer a fresh experience even for experienced players. The expansion is suitable for 2 to 5 players, the recommended age is 10+, and you should allow about 60 minutes for a game.
This game is only an expansion. To play, you must own the game Forest Shuffle.
In the borderland between forest and meadow, we often find species that combine the characteristics of both ecosystems. The Borderland expansion brings 36 new cards to the game, which can be recognized by a new symbol. The main element is bushes, a new type of plant that is neither a tree nor a mushroom, but combines the characteristics of both: it allows cards to be placed on all four sides and has a permanent effect.
Thanks to the effects of drawing from the clearing, gameplay becomes more dynamic and the strategic selection of cards from the clearing takes on greater significance. New butterfly, mammal, and plant cards use the existing system but bring more variability and the chance for unexpected combinations to the game.
- Get a completely new type of card – bushes, which combine the properties of trees and mushrooms and open up new placement and scoring possibilities.
- Increase the variability of the game by combining it with other expansions or the base game itself and discover endless strategies.
- Take advantage of the new effects of drawing from the clearing and increase your chances of powerful game combos in every round.
- Discover unique forest creatures that will reward you for well-chosen neighbors and connections with other cards.
- Play with both expansions and get the chance to collect up to seven types of butterflies, which is the key to significant point gains.
- The expansion is compact but has a big impact on the game dynamics without increasing the complexity of the rules.
The Mixed Forest: Borderlands expansion was designed by German game designer Kosch, author of the original Mixed Forest game. The illustrations were created by Spanish natural history illustrators Toni Llobet and Judit Piella, and the graphic design was prepared by Klemens Franz from Austria. The game was published in 2024 by the German publisher Lookout GmbH, and the Czech edition was released in 2025.
