Board Games
Board games have been helping people banish boredom and sharpen their minds since time immemorial. The oldest surviving board game is the Egyptian Senet (c. 3000 BC). Since then, board games have come a long way and have seen many other innovations besides cards and dice. The biggest boom in board games came in the late 1990s. The demand for new, more sophisticated games skyrocketed. Whether graphically, thematically, or in mechanics.

Basic classification of board games by difficulty:
Probably the most basic parameter for the correct selection of a board game is the age of the players, the difficulty of the rules and the time requirement or duration of one game. In this respect, there are three main categories:
Children's games (0-7 years)
Board games can be useful from a very early age. Children's games help the youngest players to develop fine motor skills, cognitive function, memory, communication skills and perception of fair play. They are among the shortest in time, as children usually cannot hold their attention for more than 30 minutes.
Family games (8-12 years)
Games for beginners or occasional players. The main specifics of these board games are simple rules and a clear winning strategy. It is also not uncommon to see a large amount of chance. These games include, for example, party games, but can sometimes be unsuitable for family play due to their controversial subject matter. In family games, the age difference and player experience are blurred. They are moderately time consuming. They can usually be played within an hour.
Games for advanced players (13+ years)
Board games with very complex rules. It is necessary to understand the different game mechanics and their synergies. This type of game, often referred to as Euro games, places high demands on the players' gaming experience. The time commitment is usually over one hour. However, sometimes the higher age is also due to the subject matter not being conducive to younger people.
Games by theme:
For some players, the theme is the alpha and omega of the game. Others don't care so much about the setting of the game, but want to enjoy the well-crafted mechanics of a social game. If you fall into the first group, you might be interested in the basic thematic breakdown of modern social games. Often there is already a mixing of two or more themes in one game.
Fantasy games
Games steeped in mystery, wondrous mythical creatures, magic and intricate mythology. Get ready to face danger with your heroes. Gain fame and fortune.
Sci-fi games
Any game set in space or the future. Quite often both at the same time. The main advantages are advanced technology, alien races and the endless reaches of unexplored space.
Detective games
In the role of a detective you will investigate a crime. You will not do without the ability of perfect deduction, observation and wit. Uncovering the culprit may not be as easy as it might seem at first glance. So collect evidence, interrogate suspects, search the crime scene and find the right person.
Historical games
From prehistoric times to the present day. That's a very wide range of topics. Historical games are primarily concerned with period realities, which should be reflected in the game itself. You can be an elder of a prehistoric tribe, a castle lord in the Middle Ages or a general in World War II.
Horror games
Do you like to be scared? Or do you like scaring others? Horror games are right for you. Monsters, creatures, dark corners, evil, violence, the supernatural, heart attack moments... All of these are inherent to the horror theme in board games.
Adventure games
If you want to explore new lands, rush for knowledge or thirst for treasure, you've come to the right place. Or maybe you're just trying to survive on a desert island? In adventure games, you can't avoid tough choices, interesting encounters and a large pile of equipment to help you overcome any dangers.
Games by mechanic and focus:
Another parameter of board games is mechanics and focus. Someone enjoys building a city, or capturing territory with units. Others like to work with random dice rolls. The variety of games knows no bounds and therefore everyone will find their own. The games are distinguished by mechanics and focus as follows...
Card games
The advantage of card games is their foldability and ease of preparation. The most popular are currently stack games, deck-building, duel games and fillers. Cards are also an integral part of most complex games.
Dice games
Dice games are currently experiencing a boom. Dice, formerly used as generators of random outcomes, are now increasingly used in board games as value indicators or "workarounds" to represent game pieces. Randomness is thus rather eliminated in dice games, or the possibility of reshuffling is reduced to a minimum.
Strategy and tactical games
These board games convey the experience of great battles and war campaigns. You'll be trying to control individual territories, build infrastructure and gain an edge over your opponents.
Abstract games
These games offer a pure gameplay experience with no additional distractions. The theme is not important. Sophisticated game mechanics play a major role here.
Roll & write games
Another newcomer to board games whose popularity has been steadily growing in recent years. All you need is a record sheet, a pencil, a few dice or cards and you're ready to play. You write your progress directly on the sheet. Players in these games usually play at the same time and have little interaction with each other.
Building games
Here you are usually trying to build a more perfectly functioning infrastructure with increasing production of resources and victory points. The most used mechanic in building games is engine-building.
