20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a thematic exploration game inspired by Jules Verne's classic novel. Players take on the roles of crew members aboard Captain Nemo's submarine, the Nautilus, and sail between surface and deep-sea maps in search of discoveries, dangers, and wonders. As they explore sunken ships, hunt sea creatures, and uncover the secrets of Atlantis, they compete for points through clever decisions and spatial strategy.
The game is played in sixteen simultaneous rounds. In each round, players secretly choose one of three character rows and then move the Nautilus using the movement points indicated. They record discoveries and points for islands in sight, sunken ships, sea forests, treasures, and cetaceans caught on their sheets. If multiple players choose the same character, danger ensues—unless one of them holds the rotating Conseil card, which grants temporary immunity.
With unique character bonuses, a special solo mode, and layered scoring at the end of the game, the game rewards thoughtful planning and tactical moves. The double-sided map system encourages players to dive and surface at key moments, adding depth and replayability. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea offers an elegant, compact, and immersive experience for 1 to 5 adventurers.
