Product detailed description
The basic principle of Tag Team is to combine two game approaches that are usually separate. The autobattler part means that after the preparation phase, you no longer have the opportunity to intervene in the course of the battle. Once the cards are revealed, you watch as the individual effects are evaluated and your plan becomes reality. It is this moment, when you can no longer change anything, that creates significant tension and gives each round a clear rhythm.
The deckbuilding component appears here in an unexpected form. During the game, you gradually expand your combat deck, but you never shuffle it. The order of the cards remains the same, and each addition of a new card is also a decision about when it will be used in subsequent rounds. This approach emphasizes timing, anticipating your opponent's moves, and planning the entire sequence of moves, not just immediate reactions.
Each player starts with two fighters, each with their own play style, abilities, and special rules. During the rounds, you reveal cards, evaluate attacks, blocks, healing, and direct damage, and after each round, you strengthen your deck with new cards from the so-called build deck. The game ends when one of the teams suffers a knockout, which can occur in various ways depending on the specific fighters.
- It offers an unusual combination of autobattler and deckbuilding, forcing you to plan entire sequences of rounds in advance and think about the development of the game as a connected whole.
- The fixed order of cards in the deck creates a strong emphasis on timing and gives each decision a long-term impact that will be felt several rounds later.
- Each fighter has their own play style, special rules, and unique mechanics, which means that each pair combination plays differently and requires a different approach.
- The short game time allows for quick rematches and naturally encourages experimentation with different fighter pairs and different strategies.
- The team principle of two fighters per player brings interesting synergies and forces you to think not only about your own cards, but also about how to complement your partner.
- Clear iconography and well-designed cards allow for smooth gameplay without unnecessary delays, so you can focus purely on tactics.
- The high variability of fighter combinations ensures that no two games are the same and the game retains its freshness in the long run.
- The tension resulting from the combat phase, when you can no longer change anything, gives each card reveal a strong moment of anticipation and uncertainty.
- The game is an ideal choice for players looking for a direct duel without lengthy preparation, complicated administration, and long explanations of the rules.
- Thanks to its simple foundation and thoughtful depth, it will appeal to both experienced players and those who want a fast-paced duel game with clear rules.
Tag Team was originally released in 2024 by Scorpion Masque. The game was designed by Yannick Leduc, a Canadian game designer who has long been involved in card and combat games with an emphasis on direct interaction between players. The illustrations were created by Alexandre Roche, a Canadian illustrator whose style gives the individual fighters distinctive personalities and makes them easy to recognize during the game. The Czech localization was created in 2026 and includes the complete rules and a fighter's handbook in Czech.
